We provide online therapy to the public via an automated website and Skype. All arrangements for sessions, bookings and payments are all handled through the website where users are required to register with us before making a booking. We are in the process of launching a new service in which clients can, briefly introduce themselves to our psychologists and enquirer about therapy before making a booking. Our therapists work from consultation spaces where privacy is ensured at all times.
Online therapy is a growing international phenomenon in psychotherapy, and already very established websites in the UK and US, some providing therapeutic services online to government health departments even in outsourcing arrangements. Examples of large overseas websites include www.Breakthrough.com and www.Online.therapy.com
There are also several research studies on internet-delivered therapy, and generally there is an indication that it is as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy in treating depression, PTSD and anxiety, among a range of difficulties, and with a comparable sense of therapeutic alliance between therapist and client.
4 Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are your fees?
A: I am not contracted to any medical aid schemes, This means that the invoice for your sessions will be given to you for payment before every session. If you have any concerns or queries in this regard we can discuses it before the first session.
My fees are R350 for a session of 45 60-minute session. This fee is payable at each session.
Q: What is the duration of a session?
A: The first session is normally 60 minutes. A standard therapeutic session lasts 45 minutes. As therapy progress the need for shorter follow-up sessions (approximately 30 minutes) may arise.
Q: How often will I have to attend sessions?
A: Initially it is useful to follow-up on your progress on a weekly basis. This gives you the opportunity to give me feedback on how you experience the changes you are making and also to learn the skills to effectively deal with the challenges you are facing. Later on the period in between sessions can be stretched out to once in two weeks or even once a month. All of this depends on the goals that were set by you in consultation with me. Please feel free to discuss this with me at the initial session.
Q: How long will I have to attend counselling for?
A: This is highly dependent on the goals that you have set for yourself during the first session. It also depends on how effectively you apply the skills that you learn during the session to the challenges that you are facing.
I regard myself as a shorter-term therapist. This means that clients usually accomplish the goals that they have set for counselling within four to six sessions. The approximate duration of counselling will be discussed with you at the initial consultation.
Q: What can I expect to happen at the first consultation?
A: The first consultation is dedicated to problem exploration and goal setting for future sessions. You will be asked a few background questions. Thereafter you will have the opportunity to explain why you decided to consult me. Once goals are set, we can discuss the approximate duration of the therapeutic intervention.
